It’s Hard to Focus When You’re Hungry

Katlyn Denise is 4-years-old. Recently, she came with her mom, Etta-Marie, to the Loaves & Fishes food pantry at Holy Comforter Episcopal Church to shop for food for their family.

 

Etta-Marie and her children became homeless after she lost her job. She currently works as a bus drive for Charlotte Area Transportation Services (CATS), but is still getting back on her feet with housing assistance from the Salvation Army and groceries from Loaves & Fishes.

 

Research shows that lack of access to nutritious food can lead to health issues which puts children behind in school. When you’re hungry, it’s hard to focus. Concentration and performance suffer making it harder to learn.

 

But when you focus on hunger, children can focus on school!
