Ferrovial Contributes $54,000 in Support of Loaves & Fishes COVID-19 Response

Ferrovial today announced that it has contributed $54,000 to Loaves & Fishes to support Mecklenburg County residents experiencing food insecurity. In the Charlotte region, Cintra and Ferrovial Construction are leading entities for I-77 Mobility Partners and Sugar Creek Construction LLC which are, respectively, developing and building I-77 Express between Charlotte and Mooresville, NC.

“During this challenging time, families are concerned about fulfilling basic needs like employment, health and wellbeing, and access to food,” said I-77 Mobility Partners CEO Ignacio Del Pino. “Ferrovial, in collaboration with our local development and construction teams, is committed to helping families in Mecklenburg County that may struggle with food insecurity during this pandemic. We are proud to partner with Loaves & Fishes to support their mission of feeding our neighbors in need.”

Loaves & Fishes provides a week’s worth of nutritionally balanced groceries to individuals and families experiencing a short-term crisis through a network of 41 emergency food pantries located throughout Mecklenburg County. As a result of the current pandemic, Loaves & Fishes has seen a nearly three-fold increase in demand for food assistance. Due to the impacts of COVID-19, Loaves & Fishes has responded by establishing mobile pantry operations and increasing the number of eligible pantry visits for neighbors in order to help solve food insecurity for Mecklenburg County families in a safe, efficient manner.

“Loaves & Fishes remains steadfast in our mission to feed our hungry neighbors in need. As a result of COVID-19, we have surged from feeding 1,200 neighbors a week to over 3,000 a week. Generous contributions from community partners like Ferrovial, I-77 Mobility Partners and Sugar Creek Construction will have an immediate impact, making it possible to provide nutritionally balanced groceries to those in our community in this time of significant need and uncertainty for so many local families.” says Loaves & Fishes Executive Director, Tina Postel

The grant is part of an international campaign led by Ferrovial, the Ferrovial Together Covid-19 Fund, which is raising up to $10 million to support the fight against the pandemic. The campaign is primarily focused on communities in the United States, Spain, and the United Kingdom.
