Mecklenburg Co. Scouts Go Scouting for Food Saturday, February 3rd

Saturday, February 3, the Mecklenburg County Council of the Boy Scouts of America will go Scouting for Food.  Scouts will go door-to-door throughout Mecklenburg Co. collecting non-perishable food items for Loaves & Fishes/Friendship Trays. Thanks to the 216,985 lbs of food collected in last year’s Scouting for Food Drive, Loaves & Fishes/Friendship Trays was able to respond to the increased hunger needs of our community.

 

The week prior to Feb. 3, Mecklenburg Co. Boy Scouts will distribute bright red Scouting for Food door hangers, generously provided by Harris Teeter, in neighborhoods throughout the county.  If you receive a door hanger, simply fill a bag or box with non-perishable food items and leave outside your home by 9:00 am for pick up by the Scouts on Saturday, Feb. 3rd. 

Priority needs include canned fruit (in fruit juice), canned meats, canned pastas and canned vegetables.  We are especially in need of low sodium, low fat and low sugar items. No glass items please!

If you do not receive a door hanger, you can still give!! You can drop off food donations at any of the locations listed below on Saturday, Feb. 3, 10am-3pm & Sunday, Feb. 4, 12:30pm-2:30pm (at certain locations indicated below) OR at the Loaves & Fishes/Friendship Trays warehouse Monday – Friday 8:30am – 4:30pm located at 648 Griffith Rd.

Town Center Plaza – 8600 University City Blvd., Charlotte (look for the Loaves & Fishes truck in the parking lot on the far left side of the shopping center.)

Scouting for Food is the largest community-wide food drive of the year for Loaves & Fishes/Friendship Trays.  and we depend on food donated to restock pantry shelves depleted during the busy holiday season. Last year, Loaves & Fishes/Friendship Trays provided nutritious groceries to over 130,000 people in Mecklenburg Co. Almost half were children and seniors.

Loaves & Fishes/Friendship Trays provides groceries, meals and hope through a network of food pantries, grocery home delivery and as the primary Meals on Wheels program for Mecklenburg Co.
