Publix Super Market Charities Donate $20,000 to Loaves & Fishes to Help Alleviate Hunger in Charlotte
Publix Super Markets Charities announced it will donate $5 million to more than 240 nonprofit organizations, including a donation of $20,000 to Loaves & Fishes, focused on alleviating hunger across Publix’s operating area. The donation will provide funding to assist in the nourishment of children, seniors and families in need. This generous donation continues Publix Super Markets Charities’ commitment to meeting the basic needs of the communities it serves including Charlotte-Mecklenburg.
The announcement was made at a press conference held in the Loaves & Fishes warehouse. The timing of this tremendous donation is critical as summer is one of the busiest times of year for Loaves & Fishes. Executive Director Tina Postel shared that in the month of July alone, Loaves & Fishes served over 6,000 individuals right here in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg community. Half of those are children.
“This means full bellies and restful night sleep because families won’t have to worry where their next meal is coming from. Because of your generous support, thousands and thousands of people are impacted by your kindness.”
After the press conference, Publix associates rolled up their sleeves and jumped in to volunteer, sorting palettes of donated food in preparation for delivery to Loaves & Fishes food pantries.
Over the past four years, Publix Super Market Charities has contributed more than $17 million to hunger-related programs. Thank you Publix!!
